I consult on Tuesdays at Johannesburg Surgical Hospital (Suite 18, second floor) and on Wednesdays at Life Wilgeheuwel Hospital (Suite 33).
Routine referrals
Email your referral letter to drvangraan@gmail.com. Please include:
- The reason for referral and the question you would like answered
- Relevant history, comorbidities and current medication (especially anticoagulants)
- Recent results: PSA, urine culture, creatinine and any imaging reports
- The patient’s contact details and medical aid details
The rooms will contact the patient directly to arrange an appointment at Johannesburg Surgical Hospital (Northcliff) or Life Wilgeheuwel (Roodepoort).
Urgent referrals
Patients with an urgent urological problem should go straight to their nearest hospital emergency unit for a full workup, rather than waiting for a rooms appointment. This includes:
- Suspected testicular torsion
- Infected, obstructed kidney (stone with fever or sepsis)
- Urinary retention where a catheter cannot be passed
- Visible haematuria with clot retention
The emergency unit will assess the patient and involve the urologist on call. Please send your referral letter with the patient.
Feedback
I send a letter back to the referring doctor after the consultation and after any procedure.
