Education & Expertise
I studied medicine at the University of Pretoria and qualified as a urologist with the Colleges of Medicine of South Africa (FC Urol SA). I went on to complete a Diploma in Microsurgery (Medunsa) and a Diploma in Laparoscopy at the University of Strasbourg, and I am a certified Da Vinci robotic surgeon.
Where I practise
In full-time private practice since 2008, I consult and operate at the Johannesburg Surgical Hospital in Northcliff and at Life Wilgeheuwel Hospital in Radiokop, Roodepoort, with operating affiliations at Netcare Waterfall, Wilgeheuwel Cure Day Clinic and Netcare Constantia.
Professional involvement
I am a Fellow of the College of Urologists of South Africa and an examiner for the FC Urol (SA) fellowship examination. I am accredited by Medtronic to train other doctors in sacral neuromodulation (a treatment for bladder control problems), and I train other surgeons in robotic prostate cancer surgery. I serve on committee work for the South African Urological Association, including training and national registry development for laser enucleation of the prostate, and I am a member of the Southern African Endourological Society.

- No referral needed — you can book directly. Some medical aid plans require a GP referral or pre-authorisation, so check with your scheme before your appointment.
- Consulting days: Tuesdays at Johannesburg Surgical Hospital (Suite 18, second floor) and Wednesdays at Life Wilgeheuwel Hospital (Suite 33).
- How to book: phone 011 794 3549 — the quickest option — or email appointment@urology.joburg. We usually reply to emails within a few days, so please phone if your problem is urgent.
- Our practice sister: Sister Yolandé Tolman is often your first point of contact and looks after any concerns or complications after treatment — phone 011 796 6673 or email yolande@urology.joburg. In an emergency, go to your nearest hospital emergency unit.
- Fees: this practice charges private rates, not medical aid rates. Our rooms will confirm the current consultation fee when you book. Consultations are payable on the day, and you will receive a statement to claim from your medical aid. You will get a written quotation before any planned procedure.
- What to bring: your ID, medical aid card, any X-rays, scans or recent test results (such as a PSA), and a list of your current medication.
The practice does not see Road Accident Fund or injury-on-duty cases.
